Program Overview
The Bayero University Storytelling Festival celebrates the transformative power of stories to connect people, inspire change, and preserve cultural heritage. Held on campus in Kano, it is the first university storytelling festival of its kind in Nigeria — an inclusive platform for students, professionals, and community storytellers to share work that challenges stereotypes and builds understanding.
Through storytelling performances, skill-building workshops, and cultural exchange, the festival empowers young voices to address lived experiences and societal challenges across Northern Nigeria.
Festival Highlights
- Storytelling performances showcasing diverse voices from students and marginalized communities.
- Skill-building workshops on narrative technique, public speaking, and cultural storytelling.
- Cultural and arts exhibitions featuring partners such as Koroso dancers and Arewa Arts Foundation.
- Digital archiving to preserve culturally significant stories for future generations.
Impact
The 2024 first edition drew over 500 in-person attendees, 25+ storytellers, and partners across campus and the wider creative community — exceeding registration expectations and planting the seeds of an annual mid-semester tradition.
